Wrestling Falls to East Stroudsburg in Home Opener

The University of Scranton wrestling team dropped a 36-9 dual match decision to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night in the program’s 2022-23 home opener at the John Long Center in Scranton.

The Royals are 0-1 in duals on the year, while the Division II Warriors are now 3-0.

Here are some of the top performers for Scranton on the night.

  • At 157 pounds, junior Daniel Kosinski (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) notched an 8-6 decision over the Warriors’ Bryce Parenti to pick up his fourth victory of the season.
  • Graduate student Will Laughlin pinned Robert Burke with just over a minute to go in the second period (4:41 of the match) at 174 pounds. The pin was Laughlin’s third of the young season and 27th of his career, which is tied for fifth all-time in program history.
  • In the heavyweight match, senior Hunter Marhan (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) battled for Scranton, but dropped a tough 5-3 decision to ESU’s Matthew Richardson.

Scranton will host the annual Electric City Duals on Sunday at the John Long Center beginning at 10 a.m. with dual matches against Alfred State, SUNY Oneonta, Rowan College, Keystone and New Jersey City.
