Born March 5, 1960, Scranton native, NFL player and coach

Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1960, Michael Anthony Munchak played college football at Penn State before joining the Houston Oilers as a guard in 1982. He played 12 seasons with the Oilers, earning nine Pro Bowl selections and recognition on the 1980s All-Decade Team. After retiring as a player, Munchak transitioned to coaching, working with the Houston/Tennessee Oilers and Titans for over 20 years, including a stint as head coach from 2011 to 2013. Later, he coached offensive lines for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos and served as a consultant for the Los Angeles Rams. Munchak was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001. His connection to Scranton is marked by a street named in his honor near Scranton High School and a charity golf tournament held annually by the United Way of Lackawanna County. His career spans playing and coaching roles that shaped professional football.
