The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced that Jose Rafael Polo-Sanchez, a 43-year-old native of the Dominican Republic, has been indicted by a federal grand jury. The charge is illegal reentry into the United States by an individual who had previously been deported.

United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam stated that the indictment alleges Polo-Sanchez was removed from the United States on December 3, 2019, through Alexandria, Louisiana. He was allegedly found again in the United States on October 31, 2024, in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, without obtaining legal permission to reenter.

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Assistant United States Attorney Tatum Wilson is handling the prosecution of this case.

If convicted, Polo-Sanchez faces a maximum penalty under federal law of ten years imprisonment, followed by supervised release and a fine. Sentencing will be determined by a judge considering federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.

It is important to note that indictments are only allegations. All individuals charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
