A federal grand jury has indicted Nicholas Silva-Shaffer, a 29-year-old resident of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, on charges of Hobbs Act robbery. The announcement was made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam stated that Silva-Shaffer allegedly approached an employee at a Rite Aid store in Dauphin County on or about September 16, 2024. He reportedly claimed to have a gun and demanded money from the store employee.

The investigation into the incident was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney K. Wesley (Wes) Mishoe.

If convicted, Silva-Shaffer faces maximum penalties under federal law including up to 20 years imprisonment, supervised release following imprisonment, fines, and special assessments. Sentencing will be determined by a judge who will consider federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.

It is important to note that indictments are merely allegations. All individuals indicted are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
