Jefferson Elementary was honored to welcome the volunteer firefighters from Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Company to our school this month. The day began with a fire drill that included a Lackawanna County com-center response of the fire department. Students learned first-hand the steps they can take to avoid fire dangers, the importance of smoke detectors and having an exit plan for their homes, and how local fire companies train, dress for and respond to fires and emergencies. Kindergarten students ate lunch with the firefighters, some of whom were once Jefferson Elementary students themselves! It was a great day of learning together in the true spirit of community. The Jefferson family thanks all the firefighters who were able to participate and all those who serve!
