Men's and Women's Cross Country Programs Set to Compete in Landmark Championships on Saturday

The University of Scranton men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in tomorrow's Landmark Conference Championships that will be hosted by Goucher College.

The women's 6,000 meter race will begin at 11 a.m. and will be followed by the men's 8,000 meter race at 12 p.m. The awards ceremony will then get underway around 1:15 p.m.

Graduate student Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) captured Performer of the Year accolades last year after winning the individual title and is looking to become the third student-athlete in Landmark Conference history to win Performer of the Year honors on multiple occasions.

In 2021, Hoffmann also became the third student-athlete in women's cross country program history to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet.

Elsewhere for the Royals, sophomore Samantha Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) and freshman Emily Hopkins (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) have both registered a trio of Top-15 finishes on the season.

Scranton was picked second in the Pre-Championship Poll that was released earlier this week.

On the men's side, junior Tim Lanahan (Mendham, N.J./Mendham) leads the way with a pair of Top-15 finishes to his credit this season including an individual title at the Dan Talbot Open on Oct. 1.

Lanahan garnered All-Landmark Second Team honors a season ago, while graduate student Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) nabbed First Team accolades and senior Liam Mead (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) added a 16th place finish in the 2021 Championship meet.

The Royals were picked fourth in the men's Pre-Championship poll.
