The University of Scranton men's golf team posted a 12 stroke win this weekend at the Landmark Conference Fall Preview at Susquehanna Valley Country Club.
The Royals proved resiliant at a tough course and shot a 302 to finish at 610 on the weekend and beat Moravian (622) by 12 strokes and secure the team title. Jake Haberstumpf of Moravian won medalist honors with a final score of 143 (+3).
Sophomore Liam Burtis (Binghamton, N.Y. / Seton Catholic Central) continued to shine for Scranton with a 74 (+4) to finish at 147 (+7) on the weekend and capture runner-up honors.
Freshman Jack Novis (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) matched Burtis with a second round of 74 (+4) to land him in a four-way tie for seventh at 155 (+15). Joining Novis in the tie for seventh were seniors Matthew Fleming (Richboro, Pa. / Council Rock South) and Ethan Zawatski (Dallas, Pa. / Dallas) who fired off rounds of 77 (+7) and 79 (+9) respectively.
Rounding out the lineup for Scranton was sophomore Danny Harding (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) who bounced back with a 77 (+7) in the final round to finish in 16th place at 161 (+21).
This marked the final action of the fall for the men's golf team. The squad will resume action in the spring of 2023.
