Volleyball Releases Challenging 2022 Slate

Coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance a year ago, The University of Scranton volleyball team returns to the court this fall for a full slate of 31 matches including 16 inside the friendly confines of the John Long Center.

Led by head coach Jamie Spangler, who is the winningest head coach in program history with 176 victories, the Royals will host the annual Scranton Invitational to open the season on Sept. 2 versus Nazareth. The following day, Scranton will battle Muhlenberg and Lebanon Valley to cap off the Invitational.

The schedule features an impressive 13 teams that competed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament with two in Juniata and Trinity (Tex.) who advanced to the Elite Eight. Five teams on the slate were ranked in the final AVCA Top 25 poll: No. 4 Juniata (Oct. 29), No. 5 Trinity (Tex.) (Sept. 17), No. 8 Johns Hopkins (Sept. 30), No. 18 Southwestern (Tex.) (Sept. 17) and No. 22 Susquehanna (Oct. 26).

Following opening weekend, Scranton hits the road for seven straight matches including the Mary Washington Invitational (Sept. 9-10) and the Trinity (Tex.) Invitational (Sept. 16-17). The Royals return home on Sept. 23 to host four matches in the Electric City Invitational, which will feature Franklin & Marshall, RIT, Rowan and Messiah.

Landmark Conference play begins on Oct. 1 with a tri-match at Goucher where the Royals will take on the Gophers and Elizabethtown. Following a match at Drew on Oct. 5, Scranton returns home to host four straight versus Marywood/Cabrini (Oct. 7), Moravian (Oct. 12) and Marymount (Va.) (Oct. 14).

In fact, Spangler's team will host eight of their final 12 at the John Long Center with other home matches against Manhattanville/Shenandoah (Oct. 22), Susquehanna (Oct. 26) and Stevens (Oct. 28).

The regular season concludes on Oct. 29 with Landmark Conference matches against Catholic and Juniata, which will be hosted by Moravian.
