Allie Benadon | University's 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.
Following an impressive career as a member of The University of Scranton field hockey team, senior Allie Benadon has been selected as the University's 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.
Eligible female student-athletes are nominated by their member school. Each conference office then reviews the nominations from its core member schools (and sponsored sports) and submits its conference nominee(s) to the NCAA. Then, in October, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee identifies the Top 30 – 10 from each division – and from there selects three finalists from each division. The Committee on Women's Athletics then selects the winner from the nine finalists.
The 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced in January at the NCAA Convention.
Scranton has had a nominee selected by the Landmark Conference to advance to the national stage in two of the last three years with Erica Licari (Women's Soccer, 2019) and Becca Russo (Women's Soccer/Lacrosse, 2020).
Benadon capped off her career this fall by becoming the second student-athlete in field hockey program history to earn NFHCA All-American honors. The Hillsborough, N.J., native also garnered NFHCA All-Region First Team, Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Year and All-Landmark First Team accolades.
She ranks in the top 20 all-time in program history in assists (15, T-10th), points (61, 16th) and goals (23, T-18th) and started 57 of the 60 career games she appeared in for the Royals.
For her career, Benadon was a two-time All-Region and three-time All-Landmark Conference honoree.
The field hockey program soared to new heights during Benadon's career with an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance in 2021 and consecutive Landmark Conference titles in 2019 and 2021. Scranton registered a single-season program record 18 victories in 2021 and finished the season ranked No. 18 in the NFHCA Top 20.
In the classroom, she excelled as a Human Resources major with a 3.9 GPA. This spring, Benadon became the first member of the field hockey program to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Additionally, Benadon was the recipient of the Landmark Field Hockey Senior Scholar Athlete award, a four-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and three-time Landmark Academic Honor Roll member. At Scranton, she was an eight-time Dean's List honoree, while also earning an Excellence in Human Resource Studies award and serving as a member of the Business Leadership Honors Program.
The athletic department also named Benadon the recipient of the Carlesimo Award, given annually to the male and female members of the senior class who have demonstrated both academic and athletic excellence.
