Scrantastic Spectacular returns to downtown Scranton on July 3!

Lackawanna County recently issued the following announcement.

Scrantastic Spectacular returns to downtown Scranton on July 3!

Lackawanna County's popular Scrantastic Spectacular will return to downtown Scranton on July 3.

The pre-Independence Day celebration that traditionally draws thousands of people to Courthouse Square for family fun, music, food and fireworks is back on the calendar after being canceled in 2020, and 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event, which will officially kick off at 4 p.m. with live entertainment by local bands, will include food vendors and games for children, said Maureen McGuigan, the county's deputy director of arts and culture.

A 16-piece brass ensemble from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic will perform beginning at 8 p.m., leading into what organizers are touting as the best fireworks display in Northeast Pennsylvania at 9:30, she said.

McGuigan said a few vendor and musician spots are still available for the event.
