Property Assessment Intern

City of Scranton issued the following announcement on May 26.

Internship Function:

The Property Assessment Intern in the Office of Economic and Community Development will play a vital role in data analysis and mapping of vacant properties throughout the city, helping to create a comprehensive catalogue of blighted areas in the city.

The intern will have a range of responsibilities, act under the direct supervision of both the Blight Specialist and the Assistant City Planner.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct site inspections to identify vacant properties, building maintenance, and property inventory
  • Collect feedback and data from community residents about issues regarding blight and vacant properties within various neighborhoods
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain records of inspections and upload them into OpenGov
  • Provide data tracking, research, and reports as requested during departmental meetings
  • Other related, necessary duties as required

Skills and Background:

  • Proficient with various computer systems (Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent Communication skills (Both orally and written)
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, government officials, and the general public
  • Ability to take on and handle multiple projects
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations accurately and effectively
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or reliable personal transportation around the city
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Hours:

This internship requires you to work twenty (20) hours per week for 10 weeks. Hours are flexible regarding specific times and days. The internship would take place at City Hall, 340 North Washington Ave. in downtown Scranton, and will require travel throughout the entire city.
