Fell CS issued the following announcement on May 26.

Seniors Brendan King (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Brett Rudy (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) have been named 2022 team captains for The University of Scranton men's soccer program as announced by head coach Matt Pivirotto and his staff.

This marks the first captainship selection for both student-athletes.

"We are really excited to have Brendan and Brett as the leaders of the team as we move forward. Through their hard work, commitment level and ability to build relationships with other members of the team, they have earned the respect and admiration of their teammates and coaching staff during their time in the program," said Pivirotto.

King has started all 33 games on defense during his career for the Royals and has helped anchor a unit that has led the Landmark Conference in fewest goals allowed in both 2019 and 2021. Scranton has registered 12 shutouts in those 33 matches and King earned All-Landmark Second Team honors this past fall.

Rudy has played in 23 games and made seven starts over two seasons with Scranton, recording four points on a goal and two assists. The Wellsboro, Pa., native tallied a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory over Marywood during the 2021 campaign.

"Each of them brings a different leadership style which will help them relate to all members of the team. They also are players who fully embraced our core values and the team culture. Brendan and Brett are two of the top students in the classroom, dedicated to their year-round fitness levels and are honorable citizens off the field," added Pivirotto.

"It has been great to see their growth over the past three years and we look forward to our continued work with them."

The Royals will open the 2022 season at King's on Sept. 1 with start time slated for 7 p.m. Click here to view the full 2022 Scranton men's soccer schedule.
