University of Scranton Athletics issued the following announcement on May 8.
Moravian broke a two-all tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and the No. 3 seed University of Scranton softball team (24-12) fell to the No. 2 seed Greyhounds (29-5) by a score of 4-2 in Landmark Conference Tournament action on Sunday afternoon at Magis Field in Scranton.
Later in the day, Moravian fell to eventual champion Susquehanna in the Landmark title game, 9-3.
The Royals struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first as senior Jessica Indelicato (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) led off with a single and scored from first on an RBI double from classmate Heather Alich (Bath, Pa./Northampton Area) who later came around to score on sophomore Sarah Stepnowski's (Monroe Twp, N.J./Monroe) RBI single for a 2-0 lead.
Moravian tied things at two with two runs in the fourth as Emily Silberman knocked in a run with an RBI single and a sac fly from Madi Cunningham brought home the second run of the inning.
Things remained tied at two in the top of the sixth when the Royals loaded the bases with three straight one-out singles, but Cunningham got a popout in foul territory and a fly ball to center to escape the jam. From there, the Greyhounds took a 4-2 lead with two runs in the home half as a walk and a single put two runners on before Silberman plated both with a two-run single.
Graduate student Jennifer Sweeney (Wind Gap, Pa./Dumont) was dealt the loss for Scranton as she allowed the four runs on five hits to go along with four walks and two strikeouts in six innings of work.
Cunningham surrendered two runs on seven hits and fanned four in a complete game effort to register the win for Moravian.
Indelicato (2-4, 2B, R) and Stepnowski (2-3, RBI) both tallied multi-hit games for Scranton.
The Royals will wait to find out if they have received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament with the field of 62 slated to be announced on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m.
