Softball's Jennifer Sweeney Nabs CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

North Pocono High School issued the following announcement on May 12.

Graduate student Jennifer Sweeney (Wind Gap, Pa./Dumont) of The University of Scranton softball team nabbed College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon.

This marks the first career Academic All-District honor for Sweeney who served as a two-way standout during her career with the Royals. She will now be considered for the Academic All-America team, which is slated to be released on June 8.

The Wind Gap, Pa., native earned the honor for NCAA Division III softball in District 4, which includes all Division III institutions throughout the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Sweeney boasted a 3.55 GPA as an undergraduate in Occupational Therapy and currently holds a 4.0 GPA in graduate school. She is a four-time Dean's List honoree and also a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll.

As a two-way player for the Royals, Sweeney is the program's all-time leader in home runs (32), RBI (156), total bases (327) and wins (60). She posted a career .385 batting average in 157 games and also made 92 career appearances in the circle, going 60-22 with a 2.46 ERA and 65 complete games. During the 2019 season that saw the Royals capture the program's first Landmark Conference title, Sweeney registered single-season program records in strikeouts (111) and shutouts (7). She also notched a single-season best 18 victories as a freshman in 2018.
