University of Scranton Athletics issued the following announcement on May 5.
The University of Scranton baseball team is ranked fourth in the latest set of NCAA Regional Rankings that were announced this week.
The Royals are in Region V, which encompasses the Landmark Conference, MAC Commonwealth, Centennial Conference, Atlantic East and CSAC.
Catholic (28-10) sits at the top of the Region V rankings and is followed by Immaculata (23-11), Cabrini (27-9), Scranton (27-9-1), Lebanon Valley (26-13), Franklin & Marshall (23-14), Swarthmore (21-17) and York (Pa.) (21-16).
The NCAA Regional Rankings are done by the same regional and national committees which will make the at-large selections for the NCAA tournament and the rankings are done by applying the same criteria which are used for making the at-large selections.
Therefore, by design, these rankings are a direct foreshadowing of the at-large selections providing a certain level of transparency to the at-large selection process.
The Royals took two of three from Catholic in a Landmark series and also notched a non-conference victory over Franklin & Marshall earlier this season.
