Wbb team shot 2021 22

University of Scranton Athletics issued the following announcement on Feb. 10.

The University of Scranton women's basketball team is ranked in the top nine of the initial NCAA Regional Rankings that were unveiled on Wednesday evening.

The Royals are in Region V, which encompasses the Landmark Conference, MAC Commonwealth, Centennial Conference, Atlantic East, CSAC and Salisbury.

Joining Scranton (20-2) in the initial set of rankings are Catholic (18-2), Drew (14-6), Elizabethtown (18-3), Gettysburg (19-2), Johns Hopkins (18-2), Messiah (18-2), Salisbury (17-4) and York (17-5).

The first regional rankings released by the NCAA ranking committees are listed in alphabetical order, with no actual ranking assessed to each team. The NCAA Regional Rankings are done by the same regional and national committees which will make the at-large selections for the NCAA tournament and the rankings are done by applying the same criteria which are used for making the at-large selections. The rankings are released following the fourth last, third last, and second last weeks prior to the tournament selections being made.

Therefore, by design, these rankings are a direct foreshadowing of the at-large selections providing a certain level of transparency to the at-large selection process.

Coming off an overtime victory at Drew on Wednesday night, the Lady Royals have won 14 straight and will look to continue the streak with a Landmark Conference showdown at Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon. Opening tip at Thompson Gymnasium is set for 4 p.m.
