University of Scranton Athletics issued the following announcement on Feb. 5.

The No. 21 University of Scranton women's basketball team (19-2, 10-0 Landmark) limited Goucher to 22.0% shooting and forced 21 turnovers as the Lady Royals rolled to an 82-36 win over the Gophers (1-17, 0-10 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at the John Long Center in Scranton.

Scranton has now won 13 straight games dating back to mid-December and has also won all 29 all-time meetings against Goucher.

The Lady Royals were hot out of the gate on Saturday as they scored the first nine points of the game capped by a layup from junior Hannah Angelini (Baldwin Place, N.Y./Somers) with 6:25 to play in the first quarter. Later in the quarter, the trio of junior Bridget Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown-Beard), sophomore Maddie Hartnett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and junior Emma Duerr (Long Valley, N.J./Morris Catholic) each buried a three to give the hosts a 20-4 advantage after one. The Gophers trailed 23-8 in the early stages of the second quarter when graduate student Abby Anderson (Scranton, Pa./Holy Cross) sank a three of her own to fuel a 14-2 run that opened up a 37-10 lead at the 4:27 mark and the Lady Royals eventually took a 41-12 lead into the locker room.

Head coach Nick DiPillo's squad was able to roll to their 13th consecutive win in the second half as a 25-3 run over the final seven plus minutes of the third quarter capped by a pair of free throws from Hartnett made it a 69-17 game at the end of three. From there, the Lady Royals were able to preserve the 82-36 victory to remain unbeaten in Landmark Conference play.

Monaghan led Scranton with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting and was joined in double figures by Hartnett with 13 points and Anderson with 12. All three players also sank multiple three-pointers as Anderson and Monaghan buried four apiece and Hartnett made three.

Junior Kyra Quigley (Drexel Hill, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr) added a season-high nine points for the Lady Royals to go along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Goucher was led by Alayna McFadden who notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Scranton shot 44.3% (31-of-70) from the field and 39.4% (13-of-33) from long range, while limiting the Gophers to the afore-mentioned 22.0% clip (11-of-50) from the floor and a 2-of-11 mark from deep. The Lady Royals also held a 45-38 edge on the glass led by seven apiece from Quigley and senior Danielle McCurdy (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan).

The University of Scranton women's basketball team heads to Drew on Wednesday for a Landmark Conference battle that will get underway at 7 p.m.
