University of Scranton Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 12.

Senior guard Jackson Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa,/Abington Heights) tallied a game-high 25 points to lead The University of Scranton men's basketball team to an impressive 86-72 victory over Susquehanna on Wednesday night in Landmark Conference action in the John Long Center.

With the win, Scranton improved to 7-5 overall and evened their record in Landmark Conference play to 1-1. Susquehanna had a five-game winning streak stopped in the loss, dropping to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the Landmark.

From the opening tap, Scranton took control of Wednesday night's contest, as they never trailed from the get-go and only let Susquehanna tie the game once.

In the first two minutes of play, the Royals raced out to a 7-0 lead and proceeded to keep the River Hawks at arm's length for most of the first 10 minutes of action. With 8:15 left, however, Susquehanna mounted a bit of a run, tying the game up at 23-23.

But, Scranton countered and quickly grabbed the lead back on a made three by senior Jack Brockett (Shamong, N.J./Seneca). The three ignited an 8-0 run for the Royals, which put Scranton up, 31-23, with five minutes to go in the first half.

From there, the Royals continued to keep the potent River Hawks offense at bay the rest of the first half, as Scranton eventually extended their lead out to 42-33 with 25 seconds left in the period. A final basket by the River Hawks cut the Royals' lead down to 42-35, but Scranton went into halftime with all the momentum in the contest and a seven point lead.

The second half saw more of the same, as each time Susquehanna made a run at the Scranton lead, the Royals punched back.

After opening the second half on a 6-2 spurt to extend their lead out to 48-37, Scranton saw the River Hawks claw their way back into the contest, as Susquehanna sliced the Royals' lead down to one point on four separate occasions in the first eight minutes of the second half.

But, each time this happened, Scranton answered, as the River Hawks were unable to even tie the contest, let alone take the lead. Up by one for the final time with 11:26 left at 57-56, the Royals went on a huge 12-2 run to go right back up by 11 (69-58) with 6:45 to go in regulation.

This deficit proved to be far too much for Susquehanna to come back from the rest of the night, as the Royals coasted down the stretch to take a 14-point victory and push their record to 7-1 on the year at home in the Long Center.

Overall, Danzig put together his ninth double-digit scoring game of the year with his 23 point night in which he shot 7-of-9 from the free throw line and pulled down five rebounds. Danzig now has 983 points in his career at Scranton and is 17 points away from joining the Royals' 1,000-point club, as well.

Elsewhere, freshmanWill McLoughlin (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) came off the bench and provided a spark with 20 points, a season-high. McLoughlin, who shot 9-of-10 from the floor in the victory, also pulled down seven rebounds.

Rounding out the double-digit scorers for Scranton were Brockett and junior Stephen Braunstein (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), who had 13 points, apiece.

Overall, it was another hot shooting night for the Royals offense at 57.1 percent for the game from the floor (33-of-57).

Susquehanna was led in the loss by Dominic Dunn, who has 14 points.

The University of Scranton men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, as they travel to Goucher for a Landmark Conference road contest. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and fans are reminded that no spectators will be allowed at the game in Towson, Md.
