University of Scranton Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 28.
Junior Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) of The University of Scranton women's tennis team captured the No. 2 singles flight at the King's Fall Invitational on Saturday and has been named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week.
This marks the first career Landmark weekly honor for Nowak.
The Freeland, Pa., native rolled to straight set victories in the quarterfinals and semifinals against opponents from Arcadia and Lycoming before notching the No. 2 singles flight title with an 8-5 victory over Manhattanville's Bea Pretnar. Nowak was one of three Royals to win individual singles titles at the Invitational.
In doubles play, Nowak teamed up with freshman Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) to win the No. 2 doubles flight with victories of 8-3, 8-0 and 8-1.
Nowak has posted an impressive 17-3 record in singles play and a 16-3 mark in doubles play during her first two plus seasons in the program.
The Royals return to the court tomorrow as they host Marywood in a non-conference matchup beginning at 4:30 p.m.
