CITY OF CARBONDALE: UPDATE (12/26/20 - 5PM)

Announcement

City of Carbondale issued the following announcement on Dec. 26.

Water Situation Under Control - ALL Roadways in the area are REOPEN!

MOTORIST ALERT:

Wayne Street (S.R. 1019) in the City of Carbondale is currently experiencing a Major Water Run-Off Hazard from a combination of the rain & melted snow.

- This water quickly filled the abandoned underground mines in the area, and now has reached capacity.

- This happens periodically, but tonight’s frigid temperatures are certainly not cooperating - with overnight lows expected in the Teens.

- Also, in the past, this situation has continuously dumped water onto other streets (SALEM, 7TH, 8TH, PARK, SPRING, etc.) - upwards of 2 or 3 Days!

- So this warning may last the entire weekend.

- Please Use Caution in these areas.

- PENNDOT is also on scene and evaluating whether a full road Closure & Detour may be needed - for the next few days.

Please Stay Tuned for Updates!!
