Marywood University issued the following announcement on April 2.
Marywood University junior arts administration student, Craig Beavers, Madison Twp., Pa., was recently selected for the University of Rochester’s 2020 Eastman Leadership Academy. At the 3½-day summer program at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, Mr. Beavers will be among a select group of 25 young music professionals and students who are seeking to develop careers that will impact their communities and the musical arts.
The 2020 Eastman Leadership Academy will take place from June 24 through June 27. Craig, as well as other select students, will focus on topics such as innovation in the arts, application of entrepreneurial thinking and business skills, and crafting a personal mission. Students in the program will collaborate with leading musicians, educators, and leaders in learning activities and workshops designed to be immersive, interactive, and participatory.
Mr. Beavers is a student in the music, theatre, and dance (MTD) department at Marywood University. Prior to attending Marywood, Mr. Beavers participated in Marywood’s Momentum Dual Enrollment program, where high school students have the opportunity to earn credits by taking college-level courses. Since eighth grade, he was also a member of Marywood University’s Wind Band Celebration.
At Marywood, Mr. Beavers is a member of the student-run Tutti Ensemble, a program that assists mentally or physically disabled clients to play music; he is a member of the Northeastern Youth Wind Ensemble; a member of Marywood’s Chapter of the National Association for Music Education; and updates the MTD department’s social media posts.
