University of Scranton Athletics issued the following announcement on May 26.

Following three Landmark Conference Championships during the 2021-22 season, The University of Scranton registered a third place finish in the President’s Trophy standings as announced by the conference office at the Landmark Membership Symposium earlier this week.

This marks the third straight year that the Royals have secured a top three finish in the President’s Trophy standings as they won the trophy in 2019-20 and finished second in 2020-21.

The top four teams in the standings were separated by less than a point as Susquehanna won the trophy with 8.54 points, while Catholic finished second with 8.48 points and the Royals placed third at 7.64 points. Drew was slotted fourth with 7.57 points.

The winner was not decided until the final championship of the spring season as the River Hawks’ runner-up finish in baseball propelled them to the title.

Scranton captured Landmark titles in field hockey, women’s soccer and women’s basketball, while recording runner-up finishes in men’s golf, women’s lacrosse and volleyball. This spring, the Royals competed in all six team sports’ postseason tournaments and also registered top three finishes at both men’s and women’s golf.

The Landmark Presidents’ Trophy is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for regular season conference standings as well as results in Landmark postseason competition. The point structure was revised in the summer of 2016 with different point hierarchies for team and individual sports, but the maximum number of points any team can earn is 15. The total number of points each institution earn is divided by the number of Landmark sports sponsored to determine the average.
