The fourth-seeded University of Scranton men’s soccer team will travel to second-seeded Elizabethtown in the Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday at 2 PM at Ira R. Herr Field.
The winner of Saturday’s game will earn the Landmark’s automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament with the field of 64 set to be announced in a live selection show on NCAA.com on Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
Admission to Saturday’s championship game is $7 for adults and $4 for minors ages 10-17 and seniors 62 and older. Children ages nine and under are admitted free of charge, as are all Landmark Conference students, faculty and staff with their school ID.
Cash will be the only method of payment accepted at Saturdays’ Championship match.
The Royals upset top-seeded Catholic 1-0 in Wednesday evenings’ semifinal game in Washington, D.C. as sophomore Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) scored the game-winner on a header in the 54th minute. The goal marked Corr’s 10th of the season while junior Dylan Estevez (Garnerville, N.Y. / Don Bosco Prep) picked up the assist on the play for his fourth of the year.
Elizabethtown picked up a semifinal win over Goucher on Wednesday night in a tightly contested contest that finished in penalty kicks. The Blue Jays junior forward Jake Groh who has recorded 14 points on five goals and four assists on the season.
Saturday marks the first Landmark Championship appearance for the Scranton men’s soccer program since 2016 when the Royals took down Elizabethtown for the second consecutive year.
Corr currently ranks in a tie for second in the conference with 10 goals on the year while senior goalkeeper Aidan Hartey (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) ranks second in the Landmark in goals against average at .782.
