The FBI raid on former President Trump’s house, Mar-a-Lago, is an attack on the law and indicates extreme partisanship from the Biden administration, according to Doug Mastriano, a Pennsylvania state senator and GOP nominee for governor.

“The raid on Mar-a-Lago was an unprecedented assault on the fundamental norms of the American legal system and represents an outrageous weaponization of America’s tools of justice against political opponents of the current regime in Washington, D.C.,” Mastriano said in a statement from his campaign. “At the same time, this assault should serve as an urgent call to all freedom-loving patriots to exercise their votes and throw the bums out — Democrats in Washington and Harrisburg — who are behind the destruction of our freedoms. Rebbie and I are praying for President Trump and his family in the wake of this egregious violation of justice.”

The FBI executed a search warrant on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in response to a claim that Trump had allegedly taken classified materials from the White House at the end of his term, NBC reported.

“These are dark times for our nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” Trump said in a statement, according to NBC.  “After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate.”

The day after the raid, a group of supporters gathered near Mar-a-Lago to show their support for the former president, according to NPR

Former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted,  “Executing a warrant against ex-POTUS is dangerous. The apparent political weaponization of DOJ/FBI (Department of Justice/Federal Bureau of Investigation) is shameful. AG (Attorney General Merrick Garland) must explain why 250 years of practice was upended with this raid. I served on Benghazi Committee where we proved Hillary (Clinton) possessed classified info. We didn’t raid her home.”

Mastriano beat out eight opponents to win the Republican nomination in Pennsylvania’s gubernatorial race, according to Ballotpedia. Mastriano will face off against Attorney General Josh Shapiro (D-PA) in the Nov. 8 general election.
