FOIA Request to Lackawanna County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Scranton Reporter have submitted a request for records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq. Our request is primarily focused on obtaining a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The information we are seeking includes the first, middle, and last names of the candidates; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation of each candidate. Additionally, we have requested contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.

As members of the media, we are deeply involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
