Today, U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan, Jr. announced that the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport has been awarded two federal grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration. The grants amount to $334,524 and $241,300 and are part of the FY 2025 Airport Infrastructure Grant program.
“These federal investments are a significant win for Northeastern Pennsylvania,” stated Rep. Bresnahan. “By funding vital infrastructure projects, we are bringing taxpayer dollars home and laying the groundwork for long-term improvements at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport. Modern, well-maintained facilities not only enhance air travel but also strengthen the region’s economy and connectivity.”
Carl Beardsley, Executive Director of the airport, commented on the impact of these grants: “These grants give us the opportunity to rehab existing pavements and enhance parking and gate facilities used by our airlines. It’s an honor to work with Congressman Bresnahan to continue improving our airport for the entire Northeast Pennsylvania region.”
The first grant will fund the final phase of extending Taxiway B by an additional 1,200 feet, aligning with current standards. The second grant will support rehabilitating 55,176 square yards of airline apron pavement as part of a structural integrity initiative crucial for maintaining operational safety.
Serving over 235,000 travelers annually, AVP is a significant economic driver in the region. These funds aim to support ongoing growth and safe operations at the airport.
Rep. Bresnahan is a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and holds positions on its Subcommittees on Aviation and Highways and Transit.
