Commonwealth Health has announced the return of its Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive, aimed at combating hunger in collaboration with Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank, Bread Basket of NEPA, and St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen. The drive will run from March 3 to March 25.

Peanut butter is highly valued by food banks due to its nutritional benefits and long shelf life, but it remains one of the less frequently donated items. Commonwealth Health encourages community participation in this effort.

This year, Jersey College School of Nursing and The Wright Center are partnering with Commonwealth Health for the collection drive. Last year’s efforts resulted in over 2,220 jars being collected by employees, medical staff, and volunteers. The goal is to exceed that number this year.

Jennifer Warabak, executive director at CEO’s Weinberg Regional Food Bank, emphasized the importance of peanut butter donations: “Peanut butter is a crucial, high-protein food that can make a big difference for families in need,” she said. “Last year, through this food drive we were able to distribute 481 jars of peanut butter. This generous donation provided a vital resource to families facing difficult times.”

Donations can be made at several locations including Moses Taylor Hospital, Regional Hospital of Scranton, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, and Commonwealth Health Physician Network Offices.
