Burtis Nabs Medalist Honors with One Over 73 as Men’s Golf Wins Moravian Invitational

University of Scranton Athletics issued the following announcement on Mar. 30.

Freshman Liam Burtis (Binghamton, N.Y. / Seton Catholic Central) took first in the Moravian Invitational at Olde Homestead Golf Club with a career-low round of 73 (+1) as The University of Scranton men’s golf team took first on Wednesday in New Tripoli, PA. 

Overall, the Royals posted a final score of 320 (+32) to earn the victory in a highly competitive field. Moravian finished in second with a score of 322 (+34).

Burtis’s one over round featured an impressive 33 (-3) on the back nine including four birdies. Fellow freshman Danny Harding (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) finished with a 79 (+7) to tie for ninth overall. 

Senior Nicholas Campanelli (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) and junior Matthew Fleming (Richboro, Pa. / Council Rock South) each carded an 84 (+12). Rounding out the lineup for the Royals was senior John Shaughnessy (Florida, N.Y. / S.S. Seward Institute) who shot an 88 (+16).

The University of Scranton men’s golf team returns to action on Monday when they take on Marywood and Misericordia in a tri-match at Glemaura National Golf Club. Things will get underway at 1:00 PM.
