U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan, Jr. announced over $11 million in federal funding for Head Start programs in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties. These grants are intended to support early childhood education, healthcare, nutrition, and family support services for children and families in the region.
“Head Start programs give kids the boost they need for a strong start in life,” stated Rep. Bresnahan. “This next generation will take us to the 22nd century, and it is critical to provide them with every resource we have at our disposal to help them succeed. These grants are a significant step in supporting children and families across our region.”
The grant distribution includes $6,010,135 allocated for Luzerne County Head Start, Inc., and $5,259,873 designated for the Agency for Community EmPOWERment of NEPA.
Rep. Bresnahan has shown consistent support for Head Start initiatives. Earlier this year, he signed an appropriations letter advocating for robust federal funding for Fiscal Year 2026 to maintain these programs’ strength.
“Prioritizing early education, especially for our young children and families that traditionally lack those resources, is one of the smartest investments we can make,” continued Rep. Bresnahan. “I’ll keep working to make sure families in Northeastern Pennsylvania have access to the tools and resources they need.”
Head Start offers essential services from birth to age five, focusing on families with significant needs by promoting school readiness and providing health screenings, meals, and family support services.
Rep. Bresnahan was seen participating at Heights Terrace Elementary in Hazleton during Read Across America activities last March.
