U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan, Jr. (PA-08) announced that Pennsylvania will receive $193 million in federal funding through the Rural Health Transformation Fund. Bresnahan advocated for the inclusion of this fund in the Working Families Tax Cuts package, aiming to support hospital providers and patients in rural areas.

“This $193 million investment is a major win for Pennsylvania’s rural communities,” said Rep. Bresnahan. “From the start, I pushed to guarantee the Rural Health Transformation Fund was included, because I knew how critical these resources would be for our hospital providers and patients. This funding will make a real difference for families across the Commonwealth.”

Earlier in December, Bresnahan hosted Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz in Scranton. They met with hospital executives, healthcare providers, and community leaders from Northeastern Pennsylvania to discuss workforce shortages, access to care challenges, and financial pressures on rural hospitals.

“When Administrator Oz came to Northeastern Pennsylvania, he heard directly from the people on the front lines of our healthcare system,” continued Bresnahan. “Those conversations helped reinforce why this fund must be prioritized, and why Pennsylvania deserves strong federal support.”

The Rural Health Transformation Fund is designed to help states improve rural healthcare systems by expanding access to care, supporting workforce recruitment and retention efforts, and investing in new models of healthcare delivery. The $193 million allocated to Pennsylvania will be used for state strategies that address specific needs of rural and underserved populations.

Bresnahan stated that while this funding is an important achievement, he plans to continue seeking additional resources for Pennsylvania’s rural communities.

“I remain committed to continuing to fight for Pennsylvania, so we secure even more resources in the future,” continued Bresnahan. “Our rural communities deserve long-term solutions, and I will keep working to make sure Pennsylvania gets its fair share.”

The Rural Health Transformation Fund provides targeted federal support aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure, workforce development initiatives, and innovative care delivery in rural areas.
