Healy's Early Second Half Goal Lifts Women's Soccer Past Susquehanna, 1-0

Junior Niamh Healy (Orangeburg, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) scored in the opening minute of the second half to lead The University of Scranton women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Susquehanna in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Royals secure the top seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs and move to 12-2-1 on the season and 6-0-0 in conference play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Olson (Stoughton, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) made her first save of the game in the 16th minute when she stopped an effort from Emily Wertz. The Royals had their best chance of the first half in the 26th minute when senior Teresa Heggarty (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Merion Mercy Academy) ripped a shot off the post.

The game remained scoreless headed into halftime.

Just 26 seconds into the second half Healy gave Scranton the lead as she scored her eighth goal of the season. Susquehanna searched for an equalizer and nearly found it in the 59th minute when Delaney Morton hit the crossbar.

Olson and the Royals' defense held strong the remained of the contest and Scranton went on to win 1-0. The game-winner marked Healy's fifth of the season. Olson finished the game with three saves and picked up her 10th win of the season.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday when they make a non-conference road trip to Penn State Berks. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
